Songs for You
(Volume 1)
This experience has been unreal for me. It definitely took me out of my comfort zone. Being with someone, that’s older than you and has so many life experiences and what not, really impacts the way you look at life.

ABOUT
Songs For You is an intergenerational arts initiative that connects teenagers with older adults living in aged care. Through a series of guided sessions, participants engage in meaningful conversations, sharing stories, interests, and experiences. These exchanges form the foundation for songwriting workshops, where the teenagers, inspired by their older friends, craft original music that honours their shared history and connection.
Led by intergenerational facilitators and musicians, the program fosters creativity, empathy, and sensitive communication through a combination of music and storytelling workshops. The process culminates in the public presentation of the songs, which are recorded and gifted to participants in the form of a nostalgic cassette.
Beyond the creation of music, Songs For You nurtures lasting relationships, bridges generational divides, and captures a collective expression of history, hope, and community, celebrating the profound connections that can be formed through shared creative expression.
SONGS FOR YOU VOL1
When I started to hear those clips, I just couldn’t stop laughing... It was so good.. Which got me into the next phase of it, which made you enjoy it totally and utterly even more than if you tried to do it yourself. You couldn’t put it together they way they’ve put it together, it just all made sense.

It was amusing, it made me feel happy. And I think it did good to everyone else too. It was light and it was happy and I like to be like that.

I’ve really enjoyed getting to know you (Irene) and just all talking with each other and learning more about Caitlin as well and her learning more about me and making a song for you, which I found really fun.
