100: A celebration of Queensland’s most senior citizens
The Centenarian Portrait Project by Teenagers
An intergenerational initiative that brings together members of the community who might otherwise never cross paths, breaking down loneliness and the negative ageing stigma.

"Inspirational work by these young artists.

The connections they made will remain with them forever."

Queensland rendition of community arts program TCPPBT united 100 100-year-olds with 100 teenage artists across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast in 2019. The pairs were supported to get to know one another over a number of months and this intergenerational experience culminated in an exhibition of 100 portraits of Queensland's 100-year-olds. Artists undertook a unique artistic and social journey with their centenarian sitter, learning history first hand, developing empathy and reflecting on vastly different times. Each artist gifted their final portrait to their centenarian subject to conclude the initiative.
